Hello there!

For those of you who don’t know me personally, I’m Clare. I am 20 and originally from the South West of Western Australia. Although being a homely person at heart, I moved in early 2015 to Adelaide, South Australia to further my education at the University of Adelaide. Don’t get me wrong, it was a tough decision at the time however, it is one that I am definitely glad I made. At the end of the day I knew that I could always head home if it didn’t work out and atleast I would never sit back and think, what would I have done or achieved if I had of moved? There certainly have been tough times and despite this I am very grateful for the experiences that I have had to date, the new people that I have met, friends that I have made and the opportunity to study something that I find challenging but enjoyable. So back to what I am studying……I am currently in my second year of a Bachelor of Applied Biology. At the present, I am not entirely sure on what I will major in and luckily I still have the rest of this year to decide but it will most likely be in either Microbiology and Immunology or Biochemistry.

I have been lucky enough to travel quite often and this has laid the foundations for a love of travelling. Whilst at school I had a desire to go on exchange however, did not have the opportunity. So when the opportunity came up to study overseas for 6 months and for it to be credited towards my degree I was set on wanting to do this. It has certainly taken a lot of work and many ups and downs to go on exchange but I am sure that it will be worth it. I am studying at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

I look forward to the challenges that I will be faced with at college and in everyday life, experiencing the ‘college’ life, Raleigh, North Carolina and all the United States has to offer. But more so I look forward to meeting many new people from other nations and the States and sharing many firsts with them. I know it is not going to be easy but I am ready to face it head on!

I wanted the name of my blog to have some meaning and be linked to what I am doing. As I am studying in the United States I somehow wanted to incorporate this and something to do with specifically where I will be studying. In Raleigh, there is the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University which I will be attending. NC State is commonly referred to as ‘State’ to distinguish it from the University of North Carolina. Therefore I felt as though ‘Stateside’ incorporated both the country and university and so this name was decided upon.

I hope that you will enjoy this blog and follow many of my adventures and thoughts whilst I am away and feel free to comment or send me a message whenever you fell like it (I will apologise in advance… I am not always great at replying but I will try my best).
